<Feast of Light>

〈Feast of Light〉 is an art film by director Lee Sang-je, whose visual and musical structure takes Max Cooper's 'Repetition' as its motif. Patterns of repetition and variation, generated from live footage of media art realized at Gwanghwamun, expand from the inspiration of dancheong, the traditional Korean ornamental pattern. The materiality and temporality of the live footage animate the fixed pattern, forming an organic structure in which color and form change without pause. As a layered image in which one pattern gives birth to another, the film captures the moment media art reconstitutes itself into a new artistic register. The red horse in the work begins in jogakbo — patchwork that might be called the pixel of the past — and shifts into a digital pixel image, acting as a symbolic bridge between tradition and the contemporary, the analog and the digital. This concept was realized visually through medium transitions using drawing sketches and bricolage, while AI-based video generation tools and music generation systems were used actively in production. In the latter half, the reverse playback of image and sound inverts the flow of light, fracturing the assumption that time and technology advance in a straight line. Rather than foregrounding technology itself, the work uses technology to awaken the senses and proposes that media can expand into another form of art.
